E-mobility in Slovakia

Slovakia is a world leader in car production and its automotive industry is rapidly transforming towards electromobility and batteries. A shift away from fossil fuels is inevitable and the electro-mobility ecosystem has huge growth potential. Although EVs are rapidly gaining ground around the world, we have so far been unable to give them substantial political support or convince the general public of their benefits.

SEVA´s objectives include:

  • spreading awareness among the professional and general public
  • providing an overview of entities active in electromobility in Slovakia
  • supporting companies in the transition to electrified transport, and more.

10. 8. 2026 InoBat has entered into a merger agreement with Cartesian Growth Corporation II, which is expected to result in the company’s listing on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol INBT. The transaction values InoBat at $1.265 billion and includes $77.5 million in new capital. InoBat has already delivered or contracted 875 MWh of large-scale BESS battery storage systems in Europe. Following the transaction, the company plans to accelerate production growth in Voderady and also focus on the energy needs of data centers and AI infrastructure, which require stable and flexible power sources. inobat.eu 🇬🇧
8. 8. 2026 According to industry sources,Gotion is in talks with the Volkswagen Group to take control of the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto, near Valencia. The model under consideration involves a joint venture in which the Chinese battery manufacturer would hold a majority stake and PowerCo would remain a minority partner. 7. 8. 2026 According to the IEA, electric vehicles accounted for 24% of global car sales in the first half of 2026, even though the overall market declined by approximately 5% year-over-year. Sales of electric cars rose by 4% in the second quarter, and the IEA expects them to reach 29% of the global market for the full year. Traditional manufacturers control approximately 98% of the market for internal combustion engine vehicles, but only about 55% of the global electric vehicle market. The IEA notes that future competitiveness will be determined by batteries, electronics, software, more efficient production, and strategic partnerships—areas in which China currently holds a significant lead. iea.org 🇬🇧
6. 8. 2026 Hyundai is launching its global AllDayEnergy service, which brings together Vehicle-to-Grid and Vehicle-to-Home smart charging under a single brand. The service is designed to enable charging based on electricity prices and grid conditions, feed energy back into the grid, and allow electric vehicle batteries to be used for household power. The vehicle thus transforms from an ordinary appliance into a mobile storage unit that can reduce costs and help stabilize the power grid. The service will first launch in the United Kingdom via the Kia app, and will later expand to other countries in Europe, the U.S., and Korea. hyundai.com 🇬🇧
5. 8. 2026 The BMW Group plant in Debrecen has already produced 50,000 units of the electric BMW iX3, just a few months after the start of series production. This marks the fastest ramp-up of a new plant in BMW Group history and a significant milestone for the first Neue Klasse production model. BMW has responded to strong demand and expects orders for the first Neue Klasse model to soon reach 100,000. bmwgroup.com 🇬🇧
3. 8. 2026 According to ACEA data, European new car registrations rose 13% year-over-year in June 2026 to 1.41 million vehicles, marking the strongest growth since October 2023. The main driver was battery electric vehicles, whose registrations rose by 51% and whose market share reached 23.6%. Plug-in vehicles accounted for a total of 33.8% of the European market in June 2026, surpassing gasoline and diesel cars, which held a 28% share. The model offensive will kick off in the second half of 2027 with the new generation of the electric Peugeot e-208, which will be the brand’s first model built on Stellantis’s STLA One modular platform. In terms of both design and technology, it will build on the Polygon concept while also drawing inspiration from the iconic Peugeot 205. autocar.co.uk 🇬🇧
31. 7. 2026 Using the air conditioning in an electric vehicle at an outside temperature of 25 °C increases energy consumption by approximately 0.5 to 1 kWh/100 km. At temperatures above 30 °C, this can rise to 1 to 2 kWh/100 km. According to EnBW, this can reduce the range by approximately 10 to 15% during heat waves. You can reduce air conditioning consumption by parking in the shade, briefly ventilating a hot car, and pre-cooling the vehicle while charging. EnBW recommends using automatic mode and setting the cabin temperature to no more than 6 °C lower than the outside temperature. At speeds above 70 to 100 km/h, the air conditioning is generally more energy-efficient than open windows. enbw.com 🇩🇪
31. 7. 2026 MAN Truck & Bus has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Polish government regarding an investment of approximately 1.2 billion euros in electromobility at its plant in Krakow. By 2030, the plan is to expand production, increase capacity, and prepare for the production of a new generation of trucks based on the TRATON Modular System platform. Kraków is set to become MAN’s second electrified plant after Munich. Starting in mid-July 2026, the lightweight electric eTGL model will be manufactured entirely there, and the medium-duty eTGM will also be added to the lineup. MAN will thus expand its lineup of electric trucks to cover the 12- to 50-metric-ton categories. mantruckandbus.com 🇬🇧
