To retain added value in the Slovak automotive industry, it is essential to develop the battery industry. The traction battery represents approximately 30 to 40% of the total cost of producing an electric vehicle, which is why Slovakia cannot remain focused solely on vehicle assembly. It needs to retain technological know-how and as much of the value chain as possible – from cell production and battery pack assembly to recycling and the recovery of raw materials.
This is also why SEVA organised a roundtable last week with representatives of industry, the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. The discussion focused mainly on the new European rules for batteries, extended producer responsibility, the battery passport, carbon footprint, collection, recycling and other obligations that are gradually changing the operation of the entire sector.
We prepared the meeting in cooperation with the Slovak-Austrian Chamber of Commerce, the French-Slovak Chamber of Commerce and AHK Slowakei. Joint discussion among industry, the state and expert organisations is essential if Slovakia is to maintain the competitiveness of its automotive industry in the era of electromobility.
