According to ADAC, the range of affordable small and subcompact cars is gradually expanding in terms of electric powertrains, while prices for combustion-engine models have risen significantly. The average price of basic versions of small cars with combustion engines increased from 13,244 euros in 2013 to 25,357 euros in 2025; in 2026, it fell to 24,117 euros. The number of electric cars in this class is increasing: there were 37 in 2026, with models such as the Dacia Spring, Leapmotor T03 and Renault Twingo offered for approximately 16,900 to 19,990 euros.
