An extensive study claims that plug-in hybrids consume up to three times more fuel in real-world driving than the value stated in type approval. The reason for this is the low proportion of driving on electricity. The difference between laboratory and real-world consumption thus significantly reduces the contribution of PHEVs to emissions. If most of the mileage is covered by the combustion engine, the climate effect of plug-in hybrids remains well below regulatory expectations. fraunhofer.de 🇩🇪
